Centennial Endownment Campaign

		In 2015, the Garfield Park Sunken Garden and fountains will be 100 years old. During that century, they have been in various states of disrepair. The fountains are in need of a major overhaul and are currently not operational. Mechanicals and electrical equipment are not reliable and the limestone base and edging around the fountains are crumbling.

Because of the strong historical significance of the Sunken Garden it's fountains, the Friends of Garfield Park have begun Centennial, a three-year campaign to establish a separate endowment for maintaining, preserving and restoring these unique assets.

BURRELLO FAMILY CENTER

Originally constructed in 1914, the Garfield Park Conservatory houses 10,000 square feet of plants from the world's tropics. The Sunken Garden includes three acres of European classical formal gardens. The garden's graceful historic fountains, paved walkways and benches throughout the landscape, make it a gorgeous and relaxing retreat from city life.

Originally utilized as an open-air shelter and pool house, the center has been renovated to include a beautiful art gallery, performing arts spaces, classrooms and a literary arts library. A visitor to the GPAC can experience a hands-on arts activity in the Arts for All room as well as view local and regional artwork on display in the Main Gallery - all for no charge.

The MacAllister Center for the Performing Arts, is an outdoor amphitheater that was built in 1922. In 1997 the amphitheater was renovated and given its current name, honoring local philanthropist Mr. P.E. MacAllister.

In 1998 the Burrello Family Center and Aquatic Center opened, replacing the old pool and basketball court at the Community House. The outdoor Aquatic Center is open during the summer months. The Family Center contains fitness and other recreational facilities in addition to the gymnasium.
